Noticing fewer inactive meters where rural water lines were functioning, Callaway Electric Cooperative helped fund foundational activities to initiate the development of Callaway 2 Water District. Subsequently, in 1971 Callaway 2 Water District was incorporated. Our first water was sold in 1975 to approximately 400 customers.

Currently, the Water District is financially stable enough to solicit private loan money by selling bonds to fund projects we can not cash flow. At this time, Callaway County residents receiving rural water service, get if from one of four rural water districts. Three of these, including Callaway 2 Water District, also serve customers in adjoining counties.

Callaway 2 Water District now has over 5,100 active meters. Our water is supplied from eight wells with adjacent elevated towers. Our water flows through over 700 miles of water line located within our corporate boundaries which encompasses +/- 600 square miles.

The Water District has always been governed by a five person Board of Directors. The original board was court appointed with subsequent replacements chosen by general election. Board meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday in the Water District’s central office at 2610 N. Westminster in Fulton. Board meetings are open to the public.

It is the Water District Board and staff’s intent to provide a continuous supply of potable water to enhance the community’s standard of living, general health, and growth.
